Women’s World Day of Prayer 2018
All God’s Creation is Very Good!
Even though the service had to be postponed (because of snow) there was a good turn out a week later. The service for the Women’s World Day of Prayer was written this year by the women of Suriname in the north of South America.
Quite a few people were involved in the service, all dressed in bright colours, demonstrating how we should be looking after our planet. Heather led the service really well and ladies from around the Yateley and Sandhurst area did readings representing the women of Suriname. The ‘litter louts’ then brought forward various items – bottle of water, candle, fruit, table lamp, wooden animal, picture frame etc. after readings relevant to the item – unwrapped them and then just threw the bottle/paper/boxes on the floor!
After further readings about how we should be more careful about how we dispose of our waste, the litter louts then went and cleared up the mess they had made, putting them in the appropriate recycling boxes.
Heather got us learning some of the language of Suriname (which is not easy!!) – try it and see: A heri grontapu di Gado meki bun doro, doro! (pronounced: a hair gront-ar-pu dee gardo metchi, boon, doroe, doroe. This means: All God’s Creation is Very Good. And so the service was to prove.
The hymn singing was happy and joyous. We sang ‘Beauty for Brokenness’ ‘O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder’ and one was said (as we didn’t know the tune and it was difficult to learn) and we ended with the WWDofP hymn, The Day Thou Gavest, Lord, is ended The other hymn we had, ’Made in the likeness of God’ was very catchy and so Rev Sharon had us all singing at the service on Mothering Sunday.
Afterwards we were treated to cakes (some made like the cakes in Suriname, with coconut) and tea and coffee and lots and lots of friendship and fellowship.
