Christian Aid News – September 2021

Christian Aid Week 2021

With many now donating to Christian Aid online it is difficult to ascertain the total amount raised locally during Christian Aid Week. We do know the following:

Baptist Church             £15              Envelopes
Methodist Church    £235             Envelopes
”                                            £260             Just Giving
Donations                         £50             Just Giving
Total                                   £560

Sandhurst & Yateley Methodist Church dedicated a service to Christian Aid, and as often happens with these, fund raising was boosted. Many thanks to the Rev. Sharon Gardner for this approach.

Going forward Christian Aid needs to look at different ways of raising funds to help the world’s poor and any ideas gratefully received !

New Boss

Dr. Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury, is stepping down after 2 successful terms as Chair of the Christian Aid Trustees. His replacement is Dr. John Sentamu who recently retired as Archbishop of York. Should be exciting times as Dr. Sentamu brings his energy & vigour to the role.

Sisters Stronger Together

This year’s Harvest Appeal has a focus on empowering women in Malawi to develop their potential. The link below will show you how they do this:

Climate Change

The impact of Climate Change on the poorest in the world continues apace. Christian Aid is actively campaigning for:

  • increase financial support to the world’s poorest countries and push for their debts to be cancelled so they can better confront the climate crisis and other urgent priorities that they face.
  • invest in a green recovery that leaves no-one behind – either in the UK or in the world’s poorest communities.

stop the expansion of fossil fuel energy and step-up support to clean energy.

Hopefully these requests will be brought up at COP 26 in November in Glasgow.

Save the Date

Churches Together in Sandhurst have planned a Quiz with the proceeds going to Christian Aid. This is earmarked for Saturday Oct.2nd at St George’s Owlsmoor. Watch out for further details.
