Congratulations!

What a fantastic year it was for weddings in 1970 !! –   Keith and JoanPhil and Hilary and Tony and Barbara

Congratulations on 50 Fabulous Years!

Congratulations and best wishes to Phil and Hilary Tattershall who celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Saturday 1st August

Hilary writes:

When Dad and I arrived at church, Ian, Phil’s brother came flying down the steps declaring, “You can’t come in yet, Mum and Dad haven’t arrived yet.” So we set off round the block to return when I’d spotted their car going towards church, panic over. The reception venue was some way from the church and the route there a bit complicated, so the guests who didn’t know Sheffield very well were transported there on a double decker Atlantean bus, with our best man playing conductor, ringing the bell etc. He knew the driver, but, that’s another story.

Phil and I were friends before we started going out together, as we worked in the same department at the R.A.E. as it then was, and we’re still friends now !!

This photo is 18263 days later!

Congratulations also to Keith and Joan Taylor for their Golden Wedding.

Joan writes:

Thank you for all your good wishes and for the gorgeous flowers.  We were married at Grange-over-Sands Methodist Church and the most usual reaction on seeing our wedding photos is, “Oh, I do like a uniform at a wedding!”    (Mind you, I was quite pleased to see it there when I turned up.)   I can remember having to keep my train away from the spurs on Keith’s boots; my mum had lavished a lot of care on that dress and the material cost a whole £5.

On our anniversary, only a month or so into lockdown, our son arranged a treat for us; he had heard eggs were available at a local farm shop so Keith actually moved the car for the first time in four weeks and off we went for half an hour’s drive in beautiful sunshine to pick up our order!  Who needs Anniversary parties?  (Well, maybe next April.)

Ed: Joan has also been sewing facemasks during the pandemic.

Congratulations to Tony and Barbara Rush who will celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary in September.

Barbara writes:

Tony and I were married on 12th September 1970 in London on my 22nd birthday. It was a very rainy day but we didn’t let that worry us. We have enjoyed a happy, loving and supportive marriage. We are thankful and happy that we have had a lovely close family life with Claire and Adam and now also with Debi and Mike and our 5 fantastic grandchildren. We have postponed a celebratory family weekend at a hotel until next May when, hopefully, life will be closer to normal and instead will have a suitably socially distanced barbecue with immediate family in Claire’s garden on the actual anniversary day.

Congratulations on 40 Wonderful Years!

Congratulations to Douglas and Heather Brown who celebrated their Ruby Wedding on 9th August.

Heather writes: Douglas and l got married in Ballards Lane Methodist Church in North Finchley, North London a few years after Ken and Mary Adams were married there. We did not know each other until we were at S and Y church.

Douglas and l were at the time both working in Bracknell, but actually met in Hendon, North London. This is only a few miles away from where we got married. We actually met at our friends wedding and we were seated opposite one another at the reception. Our introduction to one another was when l heard Douglas talking, whilst waiting for the wedding photos to take place, to some university student colleagues saying that he came from Bracknell. It was at that point l intervened and said that l also came from Bracknell too. (This was about 40 miles away.) So it all progressed from there.

And we have some special birthdays too:

Happy Special Birthday Sonia!

Sonia celebrated her Special Milestone Birthday on 20th August.  She’s looking fab on it!!  Congratulations Sonia, hope you had a wonderful day, with love and good wishes from all your church family at SYMC xx

Happy 105th Birthday to Margaret!

Tuesday 18th August was mum’s 105th birthday. The card from the Queen duly arrived! There has been a steady stream of visitors all day and her lounge is full of flowers and plants and cards and chocolate 🙂 My brother, Lee, and his partner, Sara, came for the weekend, and grandchildren Jen, Connor and David all came over for the day on Saturday. Unfortunately the weather was a bit gloomy but we spent the day in the garden, and ate a lot!

Mum/Margaret says “Thanks everyone for the cards, flowers and Best Wishes for her 105th Birthday. I had a great time!”
