Leprosy Mission

Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.
Psalm 92:13 (NKJV)

Dear friend,

I’m delighted to get in touch with you today to share a special message from our Vice President, Pam Rhodes.

A soothing cup of tea is such an integral part of our everyday life.  Many of us wake up each morning with a cuppa, its warmth lifting our mood and giving us a brighter start to the day. Countless friendships have started by drinking tea with one another. I couldn’t even hazard a guess to how many times my friends and I have put the world to rights over a steaming pot of tea! But have you ever considered the journey of your cuppa from tea leaf to pot?

The lush tea gardens of Bangladesh are a welcome relief from the bustle and overcrowding of the city slums. The air is pure and the neat rows of tea bushes exude vitality and life. Yet it is in these very tea gardens that a devastating weed is choking the lives of its workforce.

We now know that leprosy is more common in the tea gardens of Bangladesh than anywhere else in the world! Among the 600,000 people living in these communities, almost every family is affected by the disease, including children.

I have had the privilege of seeing The Leprosy Mission’s work in Bangladesh first hand. Now, more than ever, I feel called to stop leprosy causing disability and stealing independence in the tea communities.

Every person deserves life in all its fullness. Will your church join us in our mission and hold a Leprosy Sunday event? With your help, we can train healthcare workers to diagnose and cure leprosy, prevent disability, protect livelihoods, and stop the spread of this disease.

Together we can see flourishing health, flourishing communities, and flourishing lives in Bangladesh.

Of course, there will be plenty of opportunity to share fellowship and tea together!

God bless you
