When I wake in the night

I came across this poem the other day. Someone had cut it out of a magazine and given it to me. I thought it might be something that others can also relate to. So, if you’re the kind of person who finds themselves awake in the middle of the night, perhaps you will find this a comfort to read – and a prayer you might like to pray.

Sharon

When I wake in the night, Lord,
Is it you who woke me?
When I wake in the night, Lord,
Is there something you want me to see?
When I wake in the night, Lord,
Is there somewhere you want me to be?

When I wake in the night, Lord,
Is there somewhere you want me going?
When I wake in the night, Lord,
Is there something you want me doing?
When I wake in the night, Lord,
Why do I find myself praying?

When I wake in the night, Lord,
Give me the answers I ask.
When I wake in the night, Lord,
Tell me, what is your task?
Let me know, Lord,
That in your favour I bask.

When I wake the next day, Lord,
Fill me with purpose, I pray
When I wake the next day, Lord,
Help me do what you say.
When I wake the next day, Lord,
Let me willingly obey.

Oh Lord, every minute of each day
Guide me and hold me
So I do it okay
And speak to me, Lord,
Every night, every day
As you lead me along your chosen way.

Amen.
