Club 15 Theatre Trip 14th April 2018

“All My Sons” by Arthur Miller Electric Theatre, Guildford

Fourteen Club 15 members were booked to see “All My Sons” by Arthur Miller at the Electric , Guildford but sadly three had to drop out with illness, etc which was a shame because they missed a gripping, tragic story which was presented superbly by the amateur Guildbury Theatre cast (www.guildburys.com/about-us/) .

“All My Sons” is family drama at its best: gripping and powerful, and written by one of the greatest playwrights of the 20th Century. It is based on the question – if you had a secret that could tear your life and family apart would you keep it hidden?

Joe Keller is a successful businessman who lives with his wife Kate and son Chris in late-1940s suburban America. Their only sadness, it seems, is the loss of their other son Larry, who went missing in World War II. After three years, Kate still clings to the hope that her son is alive. However the fragile family calm is ripped apart with the arrival of an unexpected visitor. Deep wounds are opened and the family has to confront the truth behind their otherwise comfortable lives.

Exploring the dark side of the American Dream, it’s a story that remains relevant to our modern world.

On the basis of this production if there is a chance to see the Guildbury Theatre again in the future it is highly recommended to do so.
