Club 15 June – afternoon walk

For the June Club 15 meeting a morning and afternoon walk had been organised by Robert Godden.

The morning walk was from Buckler’s Forest (near the old TRL site), while the afternoon walk started from the delightful village of Compton, southwest of Guildford.

A group of 6 of us set off on a hot sunny afternoon but in view of the temperature Robert had thoughtfully shortened the route from the original 6-7 miles planned!  The walk was partly along a section of the North Downs Way, then through lovely shady woods and finally across chalk grassland on the Hog’s Back.  We enjoyed beautiful views over the surrounding countryside, including Guildford Cathedral, saw dragonflies, butterflies and a red-legged partridge and delighted in the colourful wildflowers on the Hog’s Back, including many orchids.  Thank you, Robert, for organising another lovely nature walk.
